Presentation
I have already mentioned Iain Rice as the designer of the track-plan but I had also been well impressed with his thoughts on the best way to display a model railway. He has advocated a theatrical approach and has discussed this in various books and issues of Model Railway Journal. He summarised his thinking in a recent article in MRJ as “something small and exquisite (we hope) , but also designed integrally with a structure designed not only to support and display it, but also be pleasing to look at”.
Rhyd follows this theatrical style of presentation:
Rhyd follows this theatrical style of presentation:
- a high baseboard height, so the viewer looks across the scene rather than the usual 'helicopter view'.
- a high backscene, again draws the viewer in (and hides out of scale bellies!),
- curved backscene - no corners in the sky,
- a procenium arch to define the edge of the viewer is looking at and disguised stage exits,
- well lit, again to draw and hold the viewers eye.
